Senior Physiotherapist & Fortfield PT Director:

Tomás O’Connell

BPhysio, MSc (Sports Physiotherapy), MSOM(Cyriax), MISCP, Coru-registered.

  • A graduate from UCD class of 2002, Tomas spent 7 years working in St. Vincent’s Hospital before going full time into private practice in 2010. He worked as musculoskeletal senior and UCD clinic tutor for this last 3 years in SVUH.

    Tomás has lots of team sports experience having worked with the Kildare Senior Football Team in 2013-14, u21 and minor team 2012-14, Kilmacud Crokes in 2010, the Irish Universities Rugby league team 2014 and Bective Rangers RFC u-21’s, and Parkmore RFC.

    He has completed his MSc in Sports Physiotherapy from UCD and completed his thesis on hip impingement in athletes. He is a member of the Irish Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and has completed his diploma in Acupuncture and dry needling in 2011 through the British Society of Acupuncture. He completed his Titleist Performance Instructor level 1 course in the Belfry GC, Birmingham in 2015. He has undergone courses in foot biomechanics, muscle exercise therapy and sat his exams to become a Certified Strength and Conditioning coach (CSCS) in 2010. He has undergone the IRFU level 1 rugby coaching as well as the IRFU strength and conditioning course. He also provides an orthotic service for off the shelf and custom made devices.

    Tomás has a personal interest in a variety of sports - played rugby at different levels for 25 years; has been competing in triathlons, via Belpark TC, since 2013 ; and has a keen interest in golf. He has completed 3 70.3 distance triathlons and 3 Dublin marathons and is aiming to do more. 

Áine Neill

Senior Physiotherapist:

  • Áine is an experienced Physiotherapist with a background of over 30 years clinical work in private practice.

    She is both Maitland and McKenzie qualified and has a strong bias toward exercise emphasis in rehabilitation.

    Having worked and studied in Canada, Áine completed her Canadian manipulative examinations there and remains a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

    Áine lectures in CPR and de-fibrillator use, ergonomics and back care.

    She teaches one-to-one and group Stott Pilates and also practices dry needling techniques.

    Áine has played Leinster league hockey, has represented Leinster many times in competitive tennis and more laterally, has played competitive individual and club golf.

    She has worked with several Irish Davis Cup tennis teams, at numerous Futura international tennis tournaments and has been club Physiotherapist to two Dublin hockey teams.

    In her spare time, Áine can be found on a tennis court in Templeogue Tennis Club, on the Edmondstown Club golf course or enjoying the joy that is travel.

Sarah Brady

Chartered Physiotherapist:

M.I.S.C.P, BSc Phys, MSc (Physio), Coru-registered.

  • Sarah completed her physiotherapy degree at UCD in 2007. During her time working in New Zealand, Sarah gained valuable experience in the management of a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. Part of her work involved the management and rehabilitation of persistent back and neck pain through advice, exercise and pain management strategies. She gained a complex understanding of the challenges faced by people returning to work after injury.

    Sarah has extensive private practice experience.  She has developed a special interest in the treatment of sports injuries and back and neck pain. Sarah completed Pilates training with Dance Medicine Australia and has been teaching exercise classes since 2009. She continues to use this training with many of her patients for rehabilitation of back, neck and pelvic pain. 

    Sarah has a background in sports physiotherapy having worked with St Vincent’s senior football team, Lansdowne Rugby team and Pirongia Rugby in New Zealand. She understands the challenges an athlete faces with injury, and combines her experience in manual therapy and rehabilitation to encourage a speedy recovery.

    Sarah has completed the Masters programme in UCD, which led to a specialisation in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy.  She has therefore developed advanced clinical skills for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. 

    Sarah has published research in the areas of dry needling in 2014 and working during pregnancy 2007. She has worked as a treating physiotherapist on clinical trials in the areas of neck pain and hip pain. Sarah also has a keen interest in the assessment and treatment of specific vestibular problems which can respond well to vestibular rehabilitation.

Ryan Summersby

Chartered Physiotherapist

  • Ryan graduated from University College Dublin with a BSc of Physiotherapy in 2022.

    Since then Ryan has enhanced his musculoskeletal physiotherapy skills working with

    musculoskeletal patients to improve pain and function along with working with

    athletes to return them to sport after injury.

    Alongside Ryan’s clinical work, he has completed a PhD thesis in adolescent sports

    injuries epidemiology, his research has given him key insights into the highly

    prevalent nature of non-time loss injuries in adolescent sports along with associated

    risk factors that can make adolescents more susceptible to injury. Ryan has

    leveraged these research insights within his own clinical work to help reduce the risk

    of injury and reinjury for adolescent patients he has treated.

    Ryan is also a certified personal trainer and has played a variety of sports including

    Gaelic football, rugby and soccer which have given him a greater understanding of

    the sports specific demands required for return to sport rehabilitation. Whether it be

    an athlete looking to return to sport after injury or a patient after a hip replacement

    Ryan tailors treatment around the patient's own goals for treatment, striving to

    improve pain and daily function for greater patient outcomes."

Sinead Tobin

  • Sinéad graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a BSc in Physiotherapy, having

    gained diverse hands-on experience through clinical placements across a range of

    specialties, including musculoskeletal, neurology, respiratory, and paediatrics.

    She has worked with various sports teams in both Ireland and Australia, developing

    a strong foundation in sports injury prevention, management, and rehabilitation.

    Sinead further specialised in vestibular physiotherapy during her time in New

    Zealand, enhancing her expertise in balance and dizziness disorders.

    Having worked internationally across Ireland, New Zealand, and multiple regions of

    Australia, Sinead has developed a broad and adaptable clinical skill set, shaped by

    diverse healthcare systems and patient populations.

    She is currently a paediatric physiotherapist specialising in rheumatology and

    musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, where she combines her clinical knowledge,

    international experience, and patient-centred approach to deliver tailored, evidence-

    based care. Sinead is passionate about empowering children and their families to

    achieve their optimal physical potential and improve quality of life through

    individualised rehabilitation and education.

Fiona Wilson

Chartered physiotherapist

  • Fiona Wilson is a Coru registered physiotherapist, a Professor in the School of Medicine, and former Head of the Discipline of Physiotherapy in Trinity College Dublin. She has over 30 years of experience in clinical physiotherapy, teaching and research.

    She has practiced clinically in the UK, South Africa and Ireland working in international sport, public hospitals and private practice. Her research focuses on examination and synthesis of evidence to create meaningful prevention and management strategies for injury and pain in sport. Her primary focus has been on athlete pain, and she led an international consensus statement on athlete back pain. She also explores brain health in sport with a particular focus on current and retired rugby athletes. She was lead physiotherapist for Rowing Ireland for 10 years and is a member of the World Rowing Sports Medicine Commission.

    Fiona is a Deputy Editor with the British Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport. She rowed at a high-performance level when she was younger and now enjoys less competitive Masters Rowing. She is a less competent, but still enthusiastic runner and cyclist.

Niall Hickey

MISCP, BSc Physio

  • Niall graduated from University College Dublin with a BSc in Physiotherapy, having gained extensivehands-on experience through a variety of clinical placements across different specialities, includingmusculoskeletal, neurology, and respiratory care.

    He further enhanced his practical experience with Blackrock Health Group, where he worked across multiple specialties, including orthopaedics, respiratory care, general surgery, and outpatient services. This exposure allowed him to work with a broad spectrum of cases, providing him with invaluable insights into the complexities of rehabilitation and recovery in different clinical settings.

    Niall has a deep interest in sports and physical wellbeing, which he integrates into his clinical practice. He is particularly focused on helping individuals achieve optimal functional independence and improving their physical performance, whether it’s recovering from injury, managing chronic conditions, or enhancing overall physical health. With a strong commitment to patient-centred care,

    Niall strives to develop tailored rehabilitation plans that meet the unique needs and goals of each individual. Alongside this, Niall has a keen interest in GAA and plays inter-county football with Carlow, which further enhances his understanding of the demands of sport and the importance of recovery. Niall is also a qualified Level 4 personal trainer and incorporates strength and conditioning principles into his rehab programs.
